Bitcoin Price: news surroudning the price of Bitcoin

This subreddit is solely devoted to following the price of bitcoin. his is for those interested in investing in this virtual currancy and speculating on its future value as opposed to discussing the ideology, economics and the technology surrounding bitcoin.
[link]

Do you think it's too late to make a considerable amount of money speculating on Bitcoin? Or do you think first-time investors can still make substantial gains if they buy in now?

I ask this selfishly, but also as a general question for conversation.
(I have been following bitcoin since it was about $30/BTC, but for some reason have not actually acquired any yet. I'm willing to invest up to $1,000 into BTC, hoping for decent gains as Bitcoin continues to emerge.)
What are your thoughts on this? When do you think Bitcoin will hit its "ceiling" value?
To change the question and maybe save the conversation:
1) What makes you believe bitcoin will stick around and grow?
2) On the flipside, what are you worried about?
3) What are your prophetic predictions for bitcoin?
4) Do you hate my questions? Why?

r/bitcoin - Stop wasting time speculating on Bitcoin Value. How can we start to invest in the "use value" of Bitcoin (ie. startups, apps, exchanges)?

Bitcoin is the most 21st Century thing on the table right now. It has the opportunity to ravage the establishment if things play out according to the dream of some anarchists. Nonetheless speculating and shuffling of Bitcoins is stage one of its growth.
Stage Two is investing in these startups that allow Point of Sale bitcoin exchange, Bitcoin ATMS, international remittance transfer. Some big time Venture Capital firms are already adopting these startups that have the potential to shake things up, but why aren't there Bitcoin Venture Capital groups that allow you and me (small capital investors with $100-$1000) invest in these groups and grow them from a peer2peer paradigm instead of the old money "fork up your credentials and investing portfolio" system. If Bitcoin is going to really shake things up we have to monitor the controlling interests in the groups which will make Bitcoin take off and distinguish the separation from the establishment instead of an absorption into the Wall Street/Fat BankeOld Money/"F*** you lowly peasants" status quo.

Reminder to people who speculate on bitcoin/financial markets: be wary of taxes.

So I wrote this post because I heard people in this sub talking about trading bitcoins and similar items, but also due to the fact that due to lowering costs with brokers it is getting easier to trade things like options and futures as a retail investor.
disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, nor am I an accountant, this is just information I gathered from talking around and from calling the Federal Public Service Finance number.
As long as you buy and hold your stocks/bitcoin and they're relatively sound investments, you're probably fine and you don't have to pay taxes.
On the other hand, if your transactions are deemed as speculative, they are either taxed under "diverse inkomsten/revenus divers"(33% tax) or under "beroepsinkomsten/revenus professionnels"(easily 45-60% since you also pay social security contributions).
Now, this may not seem too bad, everybody pays taxes, that's only normal right? However, the real kicker is that you may not deduct losses. So say you regularly trade crypto's/risky financial products (more than two or three times a year). You make €1000 on one trade, and you lose €800 on another trade. The Belgian tax man classifies your gains as regular income. Say that your taxes+social security contributions are 60%: you then owe €1000*0.6=€600 to the taxman, leaving you with €400 in the red.
Conclusion: don't speculate in Belgium. In the US, they say only 2% of day traders make money on a consistent basis, but that is in a country with lower taxes and where capital losses are deductible. In Belgium you are better off buying lottery tickets.
As a Belgian citizen/resident, do invest. There's no capital gains tax as long as they fall under the "good housefather rule", so if you start investing as a young person you may be able to end up with a substantial amount of money come retirement.

Speculation on Bitcoin price post hardforks?

I'm thinking people right now wants to get the "free money" from the hardforks and will most likely sell off after it happens. Is it reasonable to think that this increases the chances of seeing a dip right after?

For all the speculations on Bitcoin's current price

I don't see anyone bringing up the fact that:
  1. People are involved in year end festivities
  2. The world has some wild things going on. Russia, Greece, the price of oil. Couldn't it be that investor types are waiting for a shoe to drop before they decide to put their money somewhere?
Maybe people that would normally buy bitcoin are instead buying a really cheap ruble or cheap oil?
Seems like people want to blame bitcoin for its low price but maybe it's more to do with the rest of the markets right now.
